Visiting Professorship in Governance
Bristol Business School , part of the University of the West of England, with its roots going back to the nineteenth century and the Bristol College of Commerce, is now one the UK 's leading new university business schools with a comprehensive academic provision, a strong regional and national position and an increasing international reputation. It is one of the largest business schools in the UK with around 4000 students and 200 staff. Renowned for the quality of its teaching, its MBA programme is one of an elite group in the country to have been accredited by the Association of MBAs. It is also widely regarded as one of the leading new universities for research.
Dr John Mellor is the first Visiting Professor of Governance in The Centre for Global Finance (CGF), working with its Director, Professor Jon Tucker. CGF aims to produce high quality research outputs, research dissemination, knowledge exchange, and education in the area of financial markets, corporate finance, financial economics, banking and international monetary systems, and international corporate financial reporting for an international audience of academics, practitioners, students and other interested parties.
In pursuit of this broad aim, the Centre has the following objectives:
- To produce research of a quality sufficient to be disseminated to an international audience by means of conference presentation, academic journal output, and other forms of output;
- To produce knowledge exchange outputs with relevance both to a national and international practitioner audience;
- To provide support for a community of academics with guidance on research funding applications and methods/avenues of dissemination;
- To provide encouragement, supervision and development of a group of Research Students on an active, rigorous and coherent PhD programme;
- To provide a physical location and infrastructure for research and practitioner conferences in the area of global finance;
- To increase contacts with other research centres both in the UK and overseas;
- To provide visiting academics with the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Centre and collaborate in joint research;
- To deliver high quality postgraduate taught programmes - the MSc Finance was launched in 2008 - underpinned by a core of research active staff.
